Tarique took millions out of country, lost $230m in KL, AL MPs allege
The Daily Star: February 24, 2006
Two Awami League (AL) lawmakers yesterday launched a broadside against the prime minister’s son and Senior Joint Secretary General of the ruling BNP Tarique Rahman in parliament, accusing him of laundering millions of dollars.
“The Malaysian government has imposed a ban on entry of the crown prince. The crown prince tried to build an industrial park in Malaysia by investing thousands of crores of taka. But the Malaysian government has frozen the money as he failed to disclose its source,” KM Jahangir Hossain told the House participating in the thanks giving motion on the president’s speech.
Jahangir did not specify the amount of money.
Participating in the discussion, AL lawmaker Mirza Azam however said the prime minister’ son ‘lost’ $230 million in Malaysia.
He also bitterly criticised the prime minister for her ‘luxurious lifestyle’ and attacked the president referring to a personal affair.
As Azam ended his deliberation, treasury bench members staged a noisy protest.
“All the attacking, indecent and defamatory words used by Mirza Azam against the president and others will be expunged from the House proceedings,” Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar said.
Jahangir also said Tarique is given VIP treatment wherever he goes in the country. “Under which law, jubaraj is provided with VIP treatment like protection by special security forces,” he wanted to know.
Both the AL lawmakers also blasted the government for the power, diesel and fertiliser crises that have been greatly hampering agricultural production.
